Proof of Alien Registration

An application form for proof of alien registration is submitted to the head of the immigration office, mayor, or head of gun/gu/eup/myeon/dong to have one’s alien registration in Korea certified.

Documents to Be Submitted at the Time of Application (Required Documents)

  • If the application is submitted by the person in question (hereinafter referred to as the “subject”), his/her ID card
  • If the person submitting the application is not the applicant him/herself, a copy of the power of attorney, a copy of the subject’s ID, and his/her identification certificate each
    • However, in the following cases, the prescribed document may be submitted in place of a power of attorney and a copy of the subject’s ID: (A) A legal representative may submit a proof of relations with the subject; (B) A parent of the subject who is a minor may submit a proof of family relations (e.g. birth certificate, etc.)
  • In case the application is submitted by the subject’s spouse or lineal ascendant or descendant because the subject is missing, deceased, etc., a copy of the proof of the fact (e.g. runaway report certificate, death certificate, autopsy report, certified copy of the register, etc.), proof of family relations, and applicant’s identification certificate each
  • In case the application is submitted by an employer of a foreigner who has left Korea for good or his/her representative, a copy of the proof of the employment relationship (e.g. labor contract, copy of the applicant’s alien registration card, etc.), proof of representative status (e.g. power of attorney, employer’s employment certificate or employee card), and the subject’s identification certificate each
  • In case the purpose is to submit the proof of alien registration to a court of law in relation to a lawsuit, deposit, or compulsory execution, the applicant’s ID card, correction order (recommendation letter), or documents required by the court (judiciary)
  • In case the application is submitted by a creditor whose legitimate creditor-debtor relationship with the subject is recognized, the applicant’s ID card, written court decision (photocopy), and a copy of the documents related to overdue payments and loan application form signed by the subject
  • In the case of a creditor-debtor relationship with the foreigner in question (excl. less than KRW 1,000,000), the applicant’s ID card, contract, promissory note, postdated check, etc. notarized copies, confirmation date, or any other documents that can provide official evidence
  • In case the subject cannot express his/her wishes as he/she is missing, deceased, etc. or in case it is clear that the proof of alien registration will be used for one’s personal interest, the applicant’s (spouse or lineal ascendant or descendant) ID card, proof of family relations, missing report, or other documents providing proof of the purpose

Documents that can be checked on the computer system need not be submitted if the applicant submits the application in person and provide consent to personal information inquiry.
